Ho Chi Minh City is vast, and there’s no doubt about it. One thing people often reminisce about is the football pitches around Saigon. However, there are frequent complaints about their scarcity. In this article, I will discuss the positives and negatives of the football pitches, along with some statistics. By the end of this report, you’ll be equipped to enhance your well-being and sporty journey in the most effective way possible.

Let’s start with the positives. The first thing that should come to mind is that every pitch is open to public residents—whether turf or terrain. Some examples include the Tri Hai Sports Complex, TGB Arena, the Football Fields An Phu, and a special mention for Vincom Park. Even though it isn’t a football pitch, it remains a vibrant hotspot for nightlife and sports. The second positive aspect is that players are extremely welcoming, and you can always participate with individuals of varying skill levels. That reminds me of an anecdote.

I visit the park behind my building about twice a week. Even though there are teenagers who do not live in my building but sneak in through the side streets, the residents always join in with them. Many young children don't care about the height of the teenagers towering over them while playing football. They have the perseverance and resilience to compete with their older mates. Get out on the field and enjoy the people you meet on your journey through Ho Chi Minh City’s football fields!

Now, let’s discuss opportunities for improvement so everyone can easily pursue their fitness and well-being. Firstly, it would be fantastic to see more football pitches built in HCMC. According to Google, 75% of people in Vietnam love football. In fact, it’s the most popular sport! Imagine how many people would want to step onto a football field! Don’t get me wrong—there are some football pitches I’ve never encountered in HCMC. Maybe a big one is being constructed right behind me as I write this, and just perhaps, in the next few years, we’ll witness metres of grass being planted around Thao Dien. After all, Thao Dien is considered Vietnam’s fastest-evolving suburb, and the journey around football pitches in HCMC will lead you right here.

Secondly, Vietnamese football pitches are quite spread out across the various districts in HCMC, like in District 7, where there are three major fields. Often, they can reach boiling temperatures. According to the Holiday Weather website, the average temperature is 30 degrees Celsius! (That’s about 84 degrees Fahrenheit, if you care to know.) So, when playing sports, after around 10 minutes, it feels like you’ve jumped into a freshly lit fireplace.

Currently, there aren’t many covered football pitches around Saigon, but here are a few options that do have them. This way, when you go play football, you can have a much more enjoyable experience without overheating in an environmentally made oven:

  • TBG Football Arena

  • Le Football City

  • MSC Mystery Sports Complex

And just like that, this article has come to an end. Thank you for reading, and I sincerely hope the journey through the football pitches around Ho Chi Minh City has either inspired you to play more football or provided you with useful insights about these places. Even if you don’t play football, you can still effectively continue your sporting journey in this bustling city.
